Nuclear Energy Side Events at the 65th IAEA General Conference

The IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) will host five hybrid side events, as well as 13 espace events, during the 65th IAEA General Conference, to be held in Vienna from 20 – 24 September 2021.

IAEA Net Zero Challenge: Meet the Finalists

During this event the six IAEA Net Zero Challenge finalists will present their policy recommendations and the Challenge committee will then select a winner. The Challenge was launched on 22 June 2021, inviting people aged 18 to 35 to propose policy recommendations which focus on creating an enabling environment for increased use of nuclear power and other low-carbon energy technologies, in order to accelerate the transition to net zero energy systems. They were asked to answer the question: “How can nuclear energy alongside other low carbon sources help your country or region to achieve their net zero targets?” through clear and concise policy recommendations. Innovations in the Production and Use of Nuclear Hydrogen for a Clean Energy Transition

This event will highlight some of the latest progresses achieved in nuclear hydrogen projects and showcase the potential of nuclear energy for hydrogen production. Digitalization in Support of Planning and Implementation of Nuclear Decommissioning

This event will highlight examples of the practical value of digitalization for advancing decommissioning projects, including 3D simulations, visualization, virtual and augmented reality and similar applications. The IAEA perspectives on these approaches will be supported by examples of real applications in Member States, in particular by IAEA Collaborating Centres on decommissioning. Read more.

The IAEA Platform on SMRs and their Applications

This event will serve as a forum to communicate with Member States on the newly established Agency­wide Platform on SMRs and their Applications. The Secretariat will present the strategy for this Platform and the current activities across the Agency in the area of SMR development and deployment. Representatives of Member States with embarking or expanding nuclear energy programmes or with technology development activities, will be invited to speak about their activities how the Platform can support them.
