Departmental Records Part 2

Date range: 1957/1979 – to date

Extent and media: Approx. 6,000 linear shelf metres (due to continuous accruals, the total is constantly changing); paper records – typed (printouts from electronic files) or handwritten

The Departmental Records, Part 2 represent the official records of the Agency after the implementation of a new correspondence registration system from 1979 to 1985, the Coordinated Records Management System (CRMS). While the techniques of central registration changed, the dual path of registered documents and unregistered records that were kept in ‘satellite’ (de-centralized) file depots has continued to the present day.

The records, transferred from offices in all IAEA Departments, comprise hard copies of registered correspondence and non-registered correspondence. These files duplicate but also complement the CRMS microfilm library and the CRMS Archives. The records transfer lists constitute the major finding aid to the Sub-fonds Departmental Records, Part 2.

The Departmental Records, Part 2 cover all IAEA business areas and programme activities as per the main functions of the file plan: governance and executive management, property and physical asset management, financial management, human resources management, information products and services, nuclear technology for development, nuclear safety and security, and nuclear verification.
