Safeguards Symposium

Every four years, the IAEA hosts the Symposium on International Safeguards at its headquarters in Vienna.

The Symposium brings together key stakeholders from the IAEA, Member States, the nuclear industry, and members of the broader nuclear safeguards and non-proliferation community. Over the course of a week, attendees examine and discuss contemporary issues in nuclear verification.

The objective of the Symposium is to foster dialogue, exchange information, and promote collaboration among key stakeholders. This helps to enhance cooperation between the IAEA Secretariat and Member States and is important for ensuring effective nuclear verification.

The thirteenth Symposium on International Safeguards took place in November 2018. With around 700 participants from 90 Member States, the Secretariat and other participants presented over 300 papers on activities required to achieve the Agency’s verification objectives.

Details of the 2014 and 2010 Symposiums are available on their respective pages.
