Safeguards Symposium

Every four years, the IAEA hosts the Symposium on International Safeguards at its headquarters in Vienna.

The Symposium brings together key stakeholders from the IAEA, Member States, nuclear industry, and members of the broader nuclear safeguards and non-proliferation community. Over the course of a week, attendees examine and discuss contemporary issues in nuclear verification.

The objective of the Symposium is to foster dialogue, exchange information, and promote collaboration among key stakeholders. This helps to enhance cooperation between the IAEA Secretariat and Member States, and is important for ensuring effective nuclear verification.

The thirteenth Symposium on International Safeguards took place in November 2018. With around 700 participants from 90 Member States, the IAEA Secretariat and other participants presented over 300 papers on matters related to the Agency’s verification work.

Details of the 2014 and 2010 Symposiums are also available.
