IAEA

Safeguards Symposium

Every four years, the IAEA hosts the Symposium on International Safeguards at its headquarters in Vienna in cooperation with the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management and the European Safeguards Research and Development Association.

The Symposium brings together key interested parties from the IAEA, Member States, the nuclear industry and members of the broader safeguards and nuclear non-proliferation community for an in-depth, week-long examination of key issues in nuclear verification.

The objective of the Symposium is to foster dialogue, exchange information and promote cooperation among all key stakeholders. This is of great importance as the cooperation between the IAEA Secretariat and States is a critical factor for safeguards implementation ensuring effective nuclear verification.

The twelfth such Symposium took place in October 2014 and involved over 600 participants from 54 States and 11 international organizations. During the event, the Secretariat and other participants presented over 300 papers, reflecting the breadth of activities required to achieve the Agency’s verification objectives. The symposium also featured an extensive exhibition, with 35 exhibitors demonstrating a broad range of achievements and new technologies.

The next Symposium takes place in November 2018

The presentations and papers of the 2014 and 2010 editions are archived on the respective pages.
