Sample Collection and Preparation for RT-PCR
Description
The second session of the ‘IAEA and WPRO Webinar Series to Support the COVID-19 Testing Laboratories in the Asia and the Pacific Region’, provides information on the proper sampling, sample packing, transport and processing in the molecular diagnostic laboratory. It also provides information on how to design appropriate laboratory settings and procedures to prevent contamination of the laboratory with nucleic acids (risk of false positive results), and the procedures for manual and automatic extraction of the nucleic acids.
Topics covered:
- Sampling (including transport) and sample pooling
- Preventing contamination, including contamination of the laboratory equipment and the environment with viral RNA
- Manual extraction of RNA, automated RNA extraction options and alternative extraction methods
