To help meet the growing demand for detection equipment in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the IAEA has collaborated with the World Health Organization Regional Office for the Western Pacific (WPRO), to deliver a four-part webinar series designed to strengthen the testing capacities of laboratories in Asia and the Pacific.
IAEA and WPRO Webinar Series to Support the COVID-19 Testing Laboratories in the Asia and the Pacific Region
Unfolding across four, separate sessions, the webinars will be led by IAEA experts and leading professionals from WHO-appointed global reference laboratories for COVID-19.
The curriculum of the series begins by establishing the laboratory requirements for the effective use of real-time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), including the biosafety and biosecurity frameworks. The second session of the series explores the best practices of sample collection and preparation for real-time RT-PCR, followed by a subsequent webinar focussing on the interpretation of results and on quality assurance and quality control. Finally, the webinar series concludes with a unique, 'problem-solving' session during which the technical concerns and challenges of the participating laboratories, with focus on the beneficiaries of the IAEA emergency support, will be addressed by visiting international experts.
