Background

The IAEA Division of Nuclear Security established the Women in Nuclear Security Initiative (WINSI) in March 2021, with the mission to support the achievement of gender equality in nuclear security both within the IAEA’s Division of Nuclear Security and with a wider global group in this field of specialization the global community of practice.

WINSI aims to promote and strengthen the involvement of women in nuclear security and related fields worldwide as well as to enhance the attractiveness of nuclear security jobs and careers to women, especially for the next generation.

To support this initiative, WINSI organized and hosted webinars on different topics:

WINSI has also organized side events at the margins of several IAEA conferences and presented its activities in other international events.

This webinar will explore the challenges and opportunities for attracting, retaining, and promoting professional women in nuclear security. The speakers will discuss strategies for creating a more inclusive and supportive work environment, as well as share good practices for promoting diversity and inclusion in the nuclear security sector.

Objectives

The objectives of the webinar are to:

  • provide an overview of the IAEA’s initiatives to attract and advance women in the nuclear field and nuclear security specifically;
  • share experiences and insights from experts from Member States including perspectives from younger generations;
  • discuss challenges and opportunities for women in the nuclear security field, including increasing interest, promoting growth, and retaining of female professionals;
  • learn strategies for creating a more inclusive and supportive work environment that supports professional growth and development of women in nuclear security.
