Nuclear Front End Webinar Series 1.6 - Results of the Coordinated Research Project on Fuel Materials for Fast Reactors (CRP FMFR)

Webinars

24 April 2025
Content offered in
English
Duration: 1.5 hour

This is the third webinar an IAEA Webinar Series on the front end of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle, related to nuclear fuel engineering. The upcoming webinar will highlight the results of the IAEA Coordinated Research Project (CRP) T12031 on Fuel Materials for Fast Reactors (2019–2023).As interest in GEN-IV and small modular reactors (SMRs) based on liquid metal-cooled fast reactor (FR) technologies continues to grow, the availability of experimental datasets, fuel behaviour codes, and benchmark studies remains limited. Reliable fuel behaviour modelling requires extensive and costly experimental data, making international collaboration essential. The IAEA has been actively supporting Member States in strengthening their fuel behaviour modelling capabilities.Launched in 2019 and completed in 2023, CRP T12031 aimed to enhance fuel performance codes for sodium-cooled fast reactors in accordance with Gen-IV requirements. The project focused on supporting the performance assessment of fuel and cladding materials, improving fuel modelling approaches, and fostering international cooperation in this field. This webinar provides an overview of the key findings and outcomes of CRP T12031 and discuss their implications for future research.Introductory Remarks:• Olena Mykolaichuk – Director, Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology, IAEAModerator:• Anzhelika Khaperskaia – Technical Lead, Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology, IAEASpeakers:• Mr Takanari OGATA (Japan)• Mr Takayuki Ozawa (Japan)• Ms Natalie Chauvin (France)
