Representatives from the IAEA’s 178 Member States will convene from 16–20 September for the 68th IAEA General Conference at the Agency’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
“From the hard realities of war in Europe and preventing a nuclear accident, to bringing health, and food to the tables, in developing countries, your Agency, the IAEA, is continuing its work,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi addressing the IAEA Board of Governors earlier this week. At the opening session of the General Conference on Monday, Mr Grossi will report on the Agency’s work and achievements in the past year.
During the week, delegates will discuss a range of topics, from the 2023 Annual Report and the 2025 budget to activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications, as well as the IAEA’s nuclear safety and security activities and strengthening the effectiveness and improving the efficiency of Agency safeguards. They will also specifically discuss nuclear safety, security and safeguards in Ukraine and safeguards in the Middle East and in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
