The IAEA’s 68th General Conference, which takes place 16 to 20 September, will provide the occasion for the IAEA to present the work and achievements of its technical cooperation programme, particularly in the areas of human resource development, capacity building and radioactive waste management. In addition to these side events, delegates to the four technical cooperation regional cooperative agreements — AFRA, ARCAL, ARASIA and RCA — will hold meetings ahead of and during the week of the General Conference.
High Level Dialogue: Addressing Human Resource Development Needs in Nuclear Science and Technology
This panel event will highlight the importance of enhancing graduate and postgraduate education in African universities. It will include high level representatives from regional and international bodies involved in education and training, who will discuss approaches to training a critical mass of young scientists in the nuclear field.

Addressing Challenges in Managing Legacy Radioactive Waste
The management of legacy radioactive waste inventories stemming from past activities poses a significant challenge around the globe. Several countries are actively pursuing positive actions to tackle these legacies. The side event will spotlight successful national projects that demonstrate various approaches to effectively address and mitigate such historical legacies. Participants will gain valuable insights into successful strategies and initiatives, and the event will foster knowledge exchange and collaboration with the goal of advancing solutions for the management of legacy radioactive waste inventories at international scale.
