Marking World Book Day with the IAEA's Three Most Popular Publications in 2018

The IAEA makes available nearly 4000 scientific and technical publications for free online, on the wide spectrum of topics the IAEA works on in the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology. These publications are read by technical experts, scientists and students all over the world. In 2018, the IAEA’s publications webpages were accessed over one million times.

To mark World Book and Copyright Day and celebrate the role of books as drivers of scientific, technical and cultural progress, here are the three most accessed IAEA publications from last year:

1. Nuclear Power Reactors in the World: 2018 Edition (2018)

The 38th edition of this annual publication presents the most recent data on nuclear power reactors available to the IAEA. It provides a detailed comparison of various statistics up to 31 December 2017, including technical data on reactors that are operating, under construction or shut down, and performance data on operating reactors. The data are generated from the IAEA's Power Reactor Information System (PRIS), a comprehensive database with information collected by the IAEA via designated national correspondents in countries with reactors.

2. World Distribution of Uranium Deposits: Second Edition (2018)

The second edition of the ‘World Distribution of Uranium Deposits’ – a map – carries a vast amount of new information and knowledge, accessible online with interactive features. A visual representation of data from hundreds of public sources, it includes information on almost 3,000 uranium deposits, a broader range of deposit sizes, a revised deposit classification system and improved geological visualisation information. Users can organize and customize this data and zoom in on individual deposits by clicking on them.

3. Diagnostic Radiology Physics: A Handbook for Teachers and Students (2014)

Training and education in the application of radiation and medicine is one of the ways in which the IAEA addresses needs worldwide in context of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health conditions. This handbook produced for students and teachers serves as a basis for the education of medical physicists initiating their university studies in the field of diagnostic radiology.
