IAEA Director General Dr. Sigvard Eklund in his statement to the 29th Session of the United Nations General Assembly commented on the economic prospects of nuclear power and the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the safeguards system of the IAEA. He also discussed the role of the IAEA in the fields of nuclear safety, nuclear waste, transfer of technology and assistance to developing countries
