Nuclear safety and nuclear security are two of the central technical areas to be addressed in establishing a robust legislative and regulatory framework to ensure the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technology. Both share a core objective: protecting people, society, and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. In this context, it is well recognized that safety and security measures are interrelated and have significant interfaces. While measures for nuclear safety also enhance nuclear security and vice versa, it is vital to ensure actions in one area will not compromise the other. This webinar will focus specifically on the interfaces between nuclear safety and nuclear security in nuclear law. It will explore how the interfaces are reflected in relevant international legal instruments, their integration into national legal frameworks, the benefits resulting from such interfaces, and the challenges faced when implementing them in domestic legislation.
