Molten Salt Reactors: A Game Changer in the Nuclear Industry
Webinar Series on Nuclear Technology Breakthroughs for the 21st Century
Date and time
Thursday, 27 August 2020
14:00-15:00
Central European Time (Berlin, GMT +02:00)
Description
There is growing interest in Member States in molten salt reactor (MSR) technology, with development of these innovative reactors ramping up over the last decade. Many MSR designs offer unique advantages, including in the areas of safety and economics. Many also are being designed to operate at higher temperatures than most currently operating reactors, making them more suited for non-electric applications, such as providing process heat.
This webinar will offer an overview of the status of MSR technology and the feasibility of deploying MSRs in the near future. The webinar will also present the main types of MSRs and review the distinguishing features of these reactors and their unique advantages.
Webinar participants can expect to learn about:
- what an MSR is and the various types of MSRs currently being developed
- the basics of MSR technology
- unique advantages of MSRs as compared with other reactor types
- the status of MSR developments and the possibility of deploying MSRs in the short term (within the next 10 years or so)
