On Saturday 7 February 2015, over 3,500 guests gathered at the magnificent Hofburg Palace in Vienna for the annual IAEA Staff Association Ball.
The Ball is an annual charitable event organized by the IAEA Staff Association, and one of the most prestigious events of the Vienna Ball Season. This year, the Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) was the proud beneficiary of a donation of €15,000, which will be given to a project entitled 'Strengthening Paediatric Oncology in Viet Nam,' and used to upgrade the paediatric facilities at the National Cancer Institute in Hanoi, as well as to improve psycho-social support for children undergoing cancer treatment, as well as for their families.
During his presentation of the donation to Ms Janice Dunn Lee, Acting Director General, Deputy Director General, and Head of the Department of Management, the President of the Staff Council, Mr Imed Zabaar, remarked that this gesture symbolizes the support of the IAEA's Staff to the important work of the Agency in the area of cancer control.
Nelly Enwerem-Bromson, Director of PACT, expressed her deep appreciation for the support of the IAEA Staff Association, noting that it demonstrated the strong and abiding commitment of the IAEA staff to the mandate of the IAEA and its contribution to peace and development, and was a recognition of the work of PACT in contributing to improve the health and quality of life of cancer patients in low- and middle-income countries.
PACT's mission is to fight cancer in low- and middle-income countries by ensuring effective partnerships and integrating radiation medicine within a comprehensive national cancer control approach.
