The newly-constituted IAEA Board of Governors met today in a one-day session to address matters arising from the 57th regular session of the General Conference held in Vienna on 16-20 September, and to elect the Board Chairman and the Vice-Chairmen for the period 2013-2014.
At its session this morning, the IAEA elected the Governor from Vietnam, Mr. Thiep Nguyen, as its Chairman for a one-year mandate from 2013-2014. Mr. Nguyen is Vietnam's Ambassador to Austria and Slovenia, and Resident Representative of Vietnam to the International Organizations, including the IAEA.
Also elected as Vice-Chairmen for the period 2013-2014 are the Governor for Norway, Mr. Jan Petersen, and the Governor for Poland, Mr. Przemyslaw Grudzinski.
New Board Members
Member States meeting at the 57th IAEA General Conference in Vienna had elected 11 new countries to serve on the 35-member IAEA Board of Governors for a one-year period from 2013-2014.
The newly elected Board members are Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Kenya, Peru, Qatar, Slovakia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Vietnam.
For the 2013-14 period, the new composition of the 35-member IAEA Board is: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Kenya, Libya, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Qatar, Russian Federation, Slovakia, South Africa, Sudan, Sweden, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Venezuela and Vietnam.
