IAEA Director General Addresses Board of Governors

The IAEA Board of Governors convened its final meeting of the year on 29 November 2012.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano opened the two-day meeting with an introductory statement and will hold a Press Conference after the morning session. In his statement, the Director General focused on the Technical Cooperation programme for 2013, the primary mechanism for the delivery of IAEA services to Member States, recent developments in nuclear safety and security, as well as the implementation of safeguards.

The 35-nation Board will discuss the report of the Technical Assistance and Cooperation Committee, which concluded its deliberations earlier this week; the progress in implementing the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety; applying safeguards in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; implementing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty's (NPT) safeguards agreement and relevant provisions of United Nations Security Council resolutions in the Islamic Republic of Iran; and implementing the NPT safeguards agreement in the Syrian Arab Republic.
