Science and technology are crucial for development. Nuclear science plays a significant role in the achievement of many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of health, hunger, energy and the environment. Non-destructive techniques that rely on radiation have become indispensable tools for all manufacturing industries and civil engineering. 

The 2016 IAEA Scientific Forum highlights the contribution of nuclear technology to the SDGs.
