Science and technology are crucial for development. Nuclear science plays a significant role in the achievement of many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of health, hunger, energy and the environment. Energy is essential for development. As populations grow – countries need more electricty. A nuclear power plant produces reliable amounts of low-carbon electricity. 

The 2016 IAEA Scientific Forum highlights the contribution of nuclear technology to the SDGs.
