Extra-budgetary projects

The IAEA relies on voluntary contributions from the Member States to carry out some of its activities. The Safety Assessment Section currently manages the following six projects:

• Study on the Graded Approach Application of IAEA Design Safety Requirements, SSR 2/1, to Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
• Enhancement of the Safety Assessment Competence Building for Countries introducing Nuclear Power Plants utilizing the Global Safety Assessment Network (GSAN) and the Safety Assessment Education and Training (SAET) Programme
• Providing Support in the Development of Safety Assessment Review Processes and Associated Procedures for Countries embarking on a New Nuclear Power Programme
• Establishment of Safety Assessment Database for Nuclear Installations
• Use of Passive Safety Features in Nuclear Power Plant Designs and their Safety Assessment
• Development of a Methodology for Aggregation of Various Risk Contributors for Nuclear Facilities
