Yasakci, Volkan

Speaker

Volkan Yasakci is studying Nuclear Sciences at Institute of Nuclear Sciences in Ege University -Izmir/Turkey as a Ph.D. student.

He has been studying radiopharmaceutical chemistry since 2015 and completed his MSc in January 2017. His master thesis was focused on in vitro/in vivo bio-affinity determination of FDG conjugated magnetic nanoparticle. He encountered the field of radiolabeled nanomaterials in the first year of his MSc and for this purpose, focused on synthesis, characterization, and radiolabeling of iron oxide-based nanoparticles. His work is published in SCI indexed journals. He is working with Prof Dr Perihan, UNAK.

Mr Yasakci has laboratory experience in synthesis and characterization of novel radiolabeled agents with diagnosis and/or therapy potential on nuclear medicine. He has studied short-lived radioisotopes like 99mTc and 131I in accordance with the institutional conditions. He has carried out various radiolabeling studies, determined optimum reaction conditions, performed quality control studies utilizing different methods (thin layer radiochromatography, high-performance liquid radiochromatography) and investigated biological characteristics of radiolabeled agents on animals and cells. He is familiar with synthesizing of targeting ligands, preparation, surface modification and characterization of iron oxide-based nanoparticles.

Mr Yasakci worked for a company producing 18F[FDG] for almost one year. He is currently working as a fellow in an international bilateral cooperation project and as part of this project is doing radiolabelling with 46Sc.
