More than one hundred international specialists in soil and water gathered at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Vienna, Austria for an international conference to mark the closing of the “2015 International Year of Soils” and to share and discuss achievements and future challenges in soil science.
The Conference was jointly organized by the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture and the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS).
Representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the European Commission, and the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the President and the Regional Representatives of the IUSS participated in this meeting.
Mr Aldo Malavasi, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, IAEA; Mr Moujahed Achouri, Director, Land and Water Division, FAO; and Mr Christian Holzer, Director General, Austrian Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, addressed the event. Achievements, future challenges, research opportunities and international partnership and collaboration for soil research were the highlights of the conference.
