Community of Practice
The use of stable isotope techniques in nutrition had started in the early 1900s but their continued utilization until present is limited to a very few groups globally in nutrition research. To expand the use and application of stable isotopes in human nutrition, especially in low- and middle-income countries, the nutrition team at the IAEA has initiated a stable isotope user group, with continued support and contribution from subject matter experts worldwide.
This user group works as an active online community of aspiring researchers, research professionals and experts with the aim to encourage and assist emerging researchers in applying stable isotope techniques to human nutrition. The IAEA has already compiled a repository of guidelines and supporting documents, accessible on the IAEA Human Health Campus. Additional useful supplementary materials on ethical concerns, safety issues, procurement of stables isotopes, sample analysis and other relevant information essential for conducting research using nuclear techniques may be planned to be made available on the CoP online platform in the future.
As part of the CoP, we have established an online discussion forum on Teams, enabling researchers to engage with both their peers and experts. This platform facilitates direct communication with experts for specific inquiries and discussions related to stable isotope nutrition research. Furthermore, an Ask the Expert webinar series focused on various nutrition-related topics to enhance knowledge within the community is to start in October 2023.
Our Goals
- Comprehensive Platform: To provide a comprehensive and holistic platform for the easier use of stable isotope techniques in human nutrition.
- Global Networking: To create a platform for global networking of researchers among themselves and with world-class senior experts.
The CoP is now active and accepting new members. If you are interested in joining the community, please fill in your full name and email in the registration form below. To better guide us in our ongoing efforts, we value your input on your needs and expectations from this community. Together, we can shape this community to best serve the needs of researchers in the realm of stable isotope techniques in human nutrition. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to your participation.
