Urea Breath Test for Helicobacter Pylori infection

This e-learning module gives an overview of the carbon-13 urea breath test (13C-UBT) for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. It describes a robust test for the diagnosis of gastric H. pylori colonization that can be applied in the field.

This course is based on the 2015 edition of the e-learning module on Urea Breath Test for Helicobacter Pylori infection. Please note the e-learning module is currently undergoing a major content update to be released in due course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the effects of H. pylori infection on human health
  • Recognize the basis of the tests available for H. pylori colonisation
  • Describe the principles of the UBT
  • Indicate how to conduct a 13C-UBT
  • Recognize the methods available for sample analysis
