The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Dr. Hans Blix has announced the following appointments:
Mr. Larry Johnson, from the USA, as Director of the Legal Division, Department of Administration.
Born in 1945, Mr. Johnson studied Political Science at the University of Nebraska, USA and attained his Doctorate-in-Law at the Harvard Law School, USA. After receiving his Masters in Public Administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University, he joined, in 1971, the Codification Division, Office of Legal Affairs, United Nations, New York. From 1987 to the present he has been Principal Legal Officer in the Office of the Legal Council of the United Nations, New York, and has acted in that capacity as procedural adviser to Presidents of the General Assembly.
He is expected to take up his duties in Vienna in early April 1997.
