Rwanda Signs Its First Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2017-2021

HE Dr Francois Xavier Ngarambe, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Rwanda to the United Nations Offices in Geneva and Vienna, and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Rwanda’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2017 - 2021 on the 9th of May 2017. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Rwanda has been an IAEA Member State since September 2012. Its 2017-2021 CPF identifies eight priority areas:

  1. Food and agriculture
  2. Human health
  3. Water resource management
  4. Environmental protection
  5. Energy planning and economics
  6. Legislative framework
  7. Radiation safety and security and
  8. Human capacity building
