Participants

Fifteen national counterparts from the Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago have participated in the Workshop for Caribbean Member States on Tools and Best Practices for TC Project Design using the Logical Framework Methodology organized by  the IAEA in Vienna from 3-7 November 2014.

As part of the strategy to increase the quality of technical cooperation project designs, the IAEA has organized a number of regional, sub-regional and country events for the design of national and regional project proposals for the technical cooperation programme 2016-2017 in Latin America and the Caribbean region.

This workshop for counterparts from the Caribbean region was of special importance as it created the conditions for new Member States to work on their designs, closely and side by side, with the key team members responsible for the technical cooperation programme Participants were also able to visit some relevant IAEA facilities and laboratories.

During the opening session of the meeting, Mr. Luis Carlos Longoria, Director of the Division of Latin America and the Caribbean, said "We welcome the opportunity to develop an open and participatory technical cooperation programme with national counterparts, using the Logical Framework Methodology, which not only defines the needs, problems and development priorities, but also determines the expected results and impact to be achieved through the programme or the projects."

During the week, national counterparts received training on how to apply the Logical Framework Approach to the design of their technical cooperation projects. Additionally, the national counterparts had the opportunity to work towards developing their concrete project designs, in close cooperation with the Training Officers, Technical Officers and Programme Management Officers.

Concluding the weeklong meeting, Mr. Francis Campbell, IAEA Training Officer, remarked "The level of commitment among our national counterparts has been inspiring, and we hope that commitment translates into more effective and higher quality projects."
