The 20 December, 2008 deadline for applications to the 2009 World Nuclear University Summer Institute (WNU-SI) is fast approaching.

The WNU has been accepting applications for their 5th Annual WNU-SI since October of this year. Selection will be completed in January. And the 2009 session at the University of Oxford runs for six weeks from 5 July to 15 August.

The Institute invites the participation of approximately 100 WNU Fellows from 35 countries. Fellows are selected on several criteria, including leadership potential.

These young, nuclear professionals are educated in a broad spectrum of nuclear energy issues, engage in team-building and leadership exercises, and become part of an expanding global network of future leaders in the nuclear profession. Some of the world´s notable experts in the field will also tutor and lead the Fellows through the programme.

The IAEA has helped shape the summer programme by participating in the selection of Fellows and through financial support. To date, the IAEA has awarded financial assistance to 87 Fellows from developing countries, to ensure their participation in the previous four Summer Institutes, which were held in the USA, Sweden, South Korea and Canada.

Three hundred and sixty-seven Fellows from 58 countries have completed the WNU-SI since its inception in 2005, and have become part of an expanding global network of future leaders in the nuclear profession.

A Fellowship Application Form can be obtained online from the WNU website and should be emailed to the WNU Coordinating Centre no later than 20 December 2008.
