Senior representatives of the Member States of the IAEA are meeting this week in Vienna, Austria, for the Agency's 60th General Conference. At the opening session of this five-day annual event, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano delivered a statement. He highlighted the Agency's most important achievements spanning its six decade history and stressed the importance of nuclear science and technology. Furthermore, he noted the significant contribution that nuclear power can make to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improved energy security and the availability of energy in the increasingly large quantities needed for development.
