Science and technology are crucial for development. Nuclear science plays a significant role in the achievement of many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of health, hunger, energy and the environment. Millions of people depend on livestock for food and income. Animal diseases can have a devastating effect on rural communities. Nuclear-derived techniques are used to detect and contain outbreaks of diseases.
The 2016 IAEA Scientific Forum highlights the contribution of nuclear technology to the SDGs.
