A key nuclear security agreement, the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM), enters into force on May 8.
The Amendment makes it legally binding for countries to protect nuclear facilities, as well as nuclear material in domestic use, storage and transport.
To mark this milestone in strengthening nuclear security, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano addressed representatives of the IAEA’s Member States and the media at the Agency’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
