UNMOVIC IAEA Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq

An UNMOVIC biological team inspected the National Project to Control and Combat the Cattle Plague in Baghdad. Another biological team inspected the Chest and Respiratory Diseases Institute in Baghdad. This Institute was formerly known as Tuberculosis Institute (TB Institute). The Centre undertakes diagnosis and primary treatment of respiratory diseases.

An UNMOVIC chemical team went to the Al Basil Centre, Nahrawan, located in Baghdad. The Centre develops the projects of the Al Basil Centre, Jadriyah (Headquarters) to the pilot plant stage.

An UNMOVIC team of missile inspectors visited the Kadhimiya Plant of the Karama State Company, located in northern Baghdad, to hold technical discussions with the leaders of the Al Samoud missile project. A second UNMOVIC missile team inspected the Hittin State Establishment, approximately 70 km south of Baghdad.

An UNMOVIC multidisciplinary team visited the Al Kut Military Hospital approximately 200 km south of Baghdad. The facility is military hospital, which serves active duty military and their families. The facility is moderately large with 70 military officers assigned to the base.

A Mosul-based multidisciplinary team inspected the Baiji underground refinery located between Mosul and Baghdad.

Three IAEA teams conducted inspections. One team performed an inspection at the Um Al Maarik industrial machining and foundry facility, south of Baghdad. A second team performed a motorized radiation survey in the Salman Pak area. A third continued activities in the Mosul area, with the inspection of the College of Science, the College of Education and the College of Engineering at the University of Mosul.
