Joint IAEA/IEA Seminar on World Energy Outlook 2011 - Role of Nuclear Power, 24 November 2011

2011/37

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will host a joint seminar with the International Energy Agency (IEA) on the annual 2011 update of the IEA's World Energy Outlook. The seminar will be held on 24 November 2011 from 10:00 to 11:30 (CET) in room NO on the 1st floor of the Austria Centre Vienna (ACV). Journalists are encouraged to enter through the Austria Centre, although access from the Vienna International Centre will also be possible.

The Seminar is open to all media, including cameras.

The IEA published the latest update of its Outlook on 9 November 2011. As in the past, the Outlook explores various plausible energy futures up to 2035, and the 2011 edition also examines the possible implications of a more substantial shift away from nuclear power in a low-nuclear case scenario.

The seminar will include presentations by IEA Chief Economist Fatih Birol and Hans-Holger Rogner, Head of the IAEA's Planning and Economic Studies Section. These presentations will be followed by discussions with IAEA Member States, and the Seminar will conclude with an opportunity for journalists to direct questions to the two presenters.
