IAEA Exhibition: An Ocean of Knowledge

2011/34

Celebrating 50 years of accomplishments in the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques to enhance our understanding of oceanic processes, marine ecosystems and pollution impact.

The IAEA Liaison Office in Geneva is organizing an exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IAEA Environment Laboratories in Monaco. The exhibition will take place at the Palais des Nations from 10 to 25 November 2011. Experts from the Monaco Laboratories will be in Geneva from 10 to 14 November to explain the work conducted at the laboratories.

The IAEA Environment Laboratories in Monaco provide research and analytical services related to oceans, coastal areas and marine ecosystems. Data derived from the application of nuclear and isotopic techniques improve scientists' knowledge of the seas and oceans and help to assess pollution. The research is buttressed by strategic partnerships with other UN agencies such as the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
