The International Atomic Energy Agency will convene an International Conference next week in Ottawa, Canada, to discuss various aspects related to nuclear regulatory systems.
The International Conference on Effective Nuclear Regulatory Systems, to be held from 8 to 12 April 2013, is the third in a series of meetings that began in 2006. Additionally, this Conference is being organised in connection with the implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety. It will be the first major event specifically devoted to nuclear regulatory systems following the 2011 accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. The implications of the accident for all nuclear regulators - not only those from countries with operating nuclear power plants - will be addressed.
Media representatives are welcome to attend all sessions of the four-day Conference, which is organized by the IAEA and hosted by the Government of Canada through the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). The meeting will be held at the Fairmont Château Laurier Hotel, 1 Rideau Street, Ottawa, Canada K1N 8S7.
Please note that all Conference proceedings are open to journalists. However, members of the media are requested not to ask questions during Conference sessions. Photographing and/or filming the proceedings is also prohibited.
If you wish to attend the Conference, please e-mail the IAEA Press Office.
