IAEA Board to Hold Special Meeting on Iran on 2 February 2006

A special meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will be held on Thursday, 2 February 2006, at 10:30 a.m., in the IAEA Boardroom C04 at the Vienna International Centre.

The meeting was requested by the Permanent Missions of France, Germany and the United Kingdom in a letter on 18 January 2006 to the Chair of the Board to discuss the implementation of IAEA Safeguards in Iran and related Board resolutions.

A special meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors can be requested by the Chair, any Board Member or the Director General. The decision to convene a meeting is made by the Chair after informal consultations with Board Members.

The three most recent special meetings of the IAEA Board were held on 14 October 2005 to decide on the allocation of the Agency´s share of the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize money; on 9 August 2005 on the implementation of Safeguards in Iran; and on 27 April 2005 to discuss the appointment of the Director General.

The meeting is closed to the press.

Photo-Op:

There will be a photo opportunity at the beginning of each morning and afternoon session. Please sign up by sending your e-mail to Veronika Schoel. Camera crews should arrive at IAEA headquarters by 10:00 a.m. and proceed to the Boardroom on C04. Positions in the Boardroom must be taken by 10:15 a.m. or 14:45 p.m. for afternoon photo-ops.
