Tuesday, 11 June 2024 - The French Fuel Cycle: An Integrated System for a Sustainable Low-carbon Energy

12:50 - 13:50 hrs
Board Room C, C Building, 4th floor

The French Nuclear Policy Council has confirmed, in February 2024, its guidelines in favour of the continuation of reprocessing and recycling of spent nuclear fuel to support the current and future French nuclear reactor fleets.

During this side event, all industrial stakeholders involved in implementing the strategy, CEA, Orano, EDF, Framatome and Andra will share

  • The status of the current spent fuel management industrial scheme, taking into consideration the disposal of final waste, as well as the on-going industrial programme to strengthen the current recycling strategy.
  • The development programme including the launch of the renewal of reprocessing/recycling infrastructure project to enhance the recycling strategy in the next LWR reactors fleet, as well as supporting the development of innovative nuclear reactors, all of this contributing directly to the ambition for the closure of the fuel cycle.

This side-event will be also a great opportunity to exchange on how this scheme could support existing and future nuclear programmes, beyond France, to deliver a sustainable low carbon energy.
