Technical Meeting on Tools and Equipment for the Management of Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources
Sealed radioactive sources (SRSs) are used extensively in agriculture, industry, medicine, and various research areas in around the world. Almost all countries utilize SRSs in some manner. The IAEA is organizing a Technical Meeting on Tools and Equipment for the Management of Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources at the IAEA’s Headquarters’ Vienna, Austria and virtually via Cisco Webex, from 29 October – 1 November 2024.
This Technical Meeting will discuss the available facilities and equipment for managing disused sealed radioactive sources (DSRS) and options that could improve these facilities and equipment. The situation in each country may influence the technical option to be chosen and certainly affects the long-term sustainability of any in-country solution. This Technical Meeting aims to review current facilities, such as centralized storage and consolidation facilities, Mobile Tool Kit Facilities, Mobile or Temporary Hot Cells, and other equipment and tools to safely and securely manage DSRS.
A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants provided that, in the IAEA’s view, the participant will make an important contribution to the event. There is no registration fee.
In order to be designated by an IAEA Member State or invited organization, participants are requested to submit their application via the InTouch+ platform to the competent national authority (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Mission to the IAEA or National Atomic Energy Authority) or organization for onward transmission to the IAEA by 30 August 2024.
In addition to the registration through the InTouch+ platform, participants who wish to give presentations are requested to submit an abstract of their work. The abstract should be sent together with the Form for Submission of Paper (Form B), to the competent national authority (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Mission to the IAEA or National Atomic Energy Authority) organization for onward transmission to the IAEA not later than 13 September2024.
