Technical Meeting on Decommissioning of Fuel Cycle Facilities

The International Atomic Energy Agency is organizing a Technical Meeting on Decommissioning of Fuel Cycle Facilities at Cherbourg, France, from 19 to 23 June 2023. The meeting will be hosted by Orano Group and will include a site visit to the La Hague nuclear site. An option for virtual participation, via Microsoft Teams, will be provided.

The purpose of this event is to support Member States involved in decommissioning of the fuel cycle facilities by facilitating the collection, sharing and analysis of good practices and experiences from decommissioning of the fuel cycle facilities and related waste management activities. Specific topics to be covered include:

  • Key considerations for decommissioning of fuel cycle facilities
  • Regulatory framework for decommissioning of fuel cycle facilities
  • Developing a decommissioning strategy and plan
  • Implementation of decommissioning activities
  • Management of radioactive waste and hazardous materials

The materials presented at the meeting and the associated discussions will form the basis for development of a technical report on these issues.

As the number of in person participants is limited, priority will be given to those wishing to make a presentation. Accordingly, to assist in finalizing the meeting agenda, you are kindly requested to provide a short abstract of your proposed presentation together with the completed participation form.

The deadline for submission of nominations for this event, via the competent national authorities, is 31 May 2023.
