'Atoms for Peace and Development' Essay Competition
Terms and Conditions
- The competition is only open to nationals of IAEA Member States.
- Applicants must be between 18 and 24 years of age on the date of the deadline for submission (23rd October 2023). Finalists will be requested to send a copy of their identification documents (e.g. copy of passport) to facilitate administrative arrangements regarding their prize.
- Essays must be submitted by an applicant acting in their own personal capacity and not on behalf of an organization, company, or government.
- Essay character count: maximum 4000 characters, excluding references.
- Entries must be submitted in the English language. Translation into English from essays originally written in another language will be accepted.
- Only one submission per individual is allowed. Revisions will not be possible after the essay is officially submitted. Please carefully check before submitting the final copy and ensure that all supplementary information is correct.
- All essays must be an original work by the applicant in their own words, except for quotations from published and unpublished sources, which are clearly indicated and acknowledged as such. Citations must follow internationally recognized styles, and applicants can at any time be requested to provide clarification of the source. Any content identified as plagiarism or AI generated will immediately be disqualified.
- The deadline for submission is Monday, 23 October 2023, at 11:59 PM (CET). Essays submitted after this time will not be considered.
- The winner will be notified via the email address provided in the submission. If the winner does not respond to the IAEA’s notification within two weeks after notification, the prize will be forfeited.
- The winner will have the chance to attend a day behind the scenes at the IAEA. The travel costs to Vienna and daily subsistence allowance for two days will be covered in accordance with the applicable IAEA’s travel rules.
- Nothing in these terms and conditions shall be construed as a waiver, either express or implied, of any of the privileges and immunities accorded to the IAEA by its Member States.
- By submitting the essay, the participant further agrees that the IAEA may publish it together with the participant’s full name, age and nationality on the IAEA website, social media and other platforms.
- The submission should:
- Be submitted using the website at www.iaea.org/essaycompetition.
- Contain the following information in the fields provided during submission:
- Participant’s full name;
- Date of birth;
- Email address.
Personal data will be treated in accordance with the IAEA’s Personal Data Privacy Policy available here.
In particular, personal data collected as part of the submission will not be shared further than outlined in these terms and conditions and will be kept only for the purpose of notifying and acknowledging the winner and the nominees and sending the prize, thereafter the data collected will be deleted.
