The March 1999 IAEA Bulletin edition focuses on the means of assessing energy production options. Factors like cost, technical performance, and health and environmental impacts must be measured in comparative ways. The IAEA has been supporting various activities to improve comparative assessments of electricity generation options. In parallel, the Agency works to provide reference levels and consistent approaches in assessment of nuclear, radiation, and waste safety; to make increasing use of quantitative tools; and to serve as a repository for comparative information, including methods of assessment and approaches to comparisons. Also featured in this edition is an article on the prospects for nuclear power, science and technology.
