The Chair of the IAEA Board of Governors for 2014-2015 is the Governor from Slovakia, Marta Žiaková. She replaces the Governor from Viet Nam, Ambassador Thiep Nguyen.
Ms. Žiaková served from 1984 to 2002 at the VUJE Nuclear Power Plant Research Institute in a number of positions, including nuclear training expert, Head of International Training Activities, Head of the Theoretical Training Department and Project Manager for safety projects. Since 2002, she has been Chairperson of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic.
She has been a team leader and member of several IAEA expert missions. She is a member of the International Nuclear Safety Advisory Group (INSAG), Vice-Chair of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Steering Committee Bureau, a member of the NEA Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities (CNRA) Bureau, and a member of the Slovak Nuclear Society and of the Society for Science and Technique.
Ms. Žiaková holds a doctorate in technical cybernetics from the Bratislava Electrotechnical Faculty of the Slovak Technical University. Born on 23 November 1955, she speaks four languages - Slovak, English, Czech and Russian.
