IAEA Peer Review Missions in Support of Research Reactors
Research reactors are nuclear reactors used for research, development, education and training, and providing multiple products and services for medicine and industry using neutrons. They are usually much smaller in size and power level and have greater diversity in design and applications as compared to nuclear power reactors that generate electricity. The IAEA assists Member States with the entire life cycle of research reactors including planning, design, construction, commissioning, operation, utilization, decommissioning and fuel cycle, as well as with capacity building and infrastructure development.
The purpose of this side event is to provide information to Member States on four peer review missions established by IAEA in support of enhancing sustainable safe operation and effective utilization of ageing fleet of operating research reactors and infrastructure development for new research reactor projects:
- OMARR – Operation and Maintenance Assessment for Research Reactors
- INSARR – Integrated Safety Assessment for Research Reactors
- IRRUR – Integrated Research Reactor Utilization Review
- INIR-RR – Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review for Research Reactors
