Board of Governors Convenes June Meeting

On 3 June 2013, the IAEA Board of Governors began its second meeting of the year at the Agency's headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano opened the meeting with an introductory statement and held a Press Conference at 14.30. The full text of the statement can be accessed here.

During the week, the 35-nation Board will discuss a number of issues, including: strengthening of the Agency's technical cooperation activities; strengthening the Agency's activities related to nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety; nuclear verification, including: the Application of Safeguards in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement and Relevant Provisions of United Nations Security Council Resolutions in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement in the Syrian Arab Republic; as well as the designation of members to serve on the Board in 2013-2014.

As part of these discussions, a number of documents will be reviewed by the Board, including the IAEA Annual Report for 2012, the Technical Cooperation Report for 2012, the Report of the Programme and Budget Committee, and the Safeguards Implementation Report for 2012.
