International Conference on Radiation Safety 2020

The IAEA encourages students and young professionals to participate in the virtual International Conference on Radiation Safety: Improving Radiation Protection in Practice from 9 to 20 November 2020. The continued safe use of radiation in industry, medicine and research depends on the availability of radiation protection experts with the necessary expertise, well defined skills and experience to address challenges in the future. Participation in this international meeting will allow young professionals to broaden their outlook, make contacts and embrace new ideas and concepts in this specialised field of science and technology.

Professional Development Programme

The IAEA invites all who are interested in promoting their work and advancing their career in the radiation safety community to register for the Opening Session of the Professional Development Programme.

During the Professional Development Programme, experts from various fields in radiation safety will share career advice and insight tailored for young people during three online professional development sessions. Although the deadline to register for the closed sessions has passed, all are encouraged join the Opening Session online on November 10 at 15:30 CET.

At the Opening Session, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, UNSCEAR Secretary Borislava Batandjieva-Metcalf, IAEA Human Resources Specialist Nancy Macharia will speak on the importance of engagement from young professionals to ensure the continued safe and secure use of radiation and the corresponding benefits to society from its application in the future. There will be a discussion on the role of women, as well as the value of their contributions, to the advancement of the radiation safety field. The opening session will discuss matters related to personal development, including guidance on how to identify a potential mentor and networking tips. This will be an interactive online event with the opportunity to ask questions. The opening session will offer valuable career guidance to all, regardless of age.

Please note that any Conference participant is welcome to join the opening session of the programme, which will include useful tips and applicable guidance for all who are interested in advancing their careers in the radiation safety field regardless of age, by registering here.

Opportunities for Young Professionals

The IAEA is offering many opportunities for young professionals at the conference. Some young professionals have already been chosen to present their research during the oral sessions and many others have had posters accepted. In addition, selected young professionals have been invited to support the Chairs of the online technical sessions by serving as Co-chairs.

Although the abstract submission period has closed, it is still possible to register to participate in the conference discussions by completing this form. Anyone who would simply like to listen can attend conference sessions via livestream accessible through the conference website without the need to register.
