The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will hold a press conference in Tokyo, Japan, on 13 November at the end of the IAEA’s fourth review of Japan’s plans to decommission the Fukushima Daiichi site.
The IAEA International Peer Review Mission of Japan’s Mid- and Long-Term Roadmap Towards the Decommissioning of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Units 1-4 was requested by the Government of Japan. It follows three previous reviews, two of which were carried out in 2013 and one in 2015.
The nine-day mission aims to review decommissioning work carried out at the site since the 2011 accident, including progress achieved since the previous missions, and to look at challenges ahead. The 13-member team, which comprises nine IAEA staff members and four international experts, will deliver a preliminary summary report to the Government at the end of the mission, with a final version to follow later.
Team members led by Christophe Xerri, Director of the IAEA Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology, will present preliminary results of the review to the media on 13 November. Journalists are invited to attend the press conference at 3:30 p.m. local time at the Foreign Press Center Japan, located at 6F Nippon Press Center Building, 2-2-1, Uchisaiwaicho, Chiyoda-ku.
