Press Arrangements for 56th IAEA General Conference
Representatives from the 154 Member States of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will meet at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) on Monday, 17 September 2012, starting at 10:00 CET, for the five-day IAEA annual General Conference to discuss major topics on the Organization's agenda.

The IAEA Board of Governors will convene a meeting at the Agency's headquarters starting at 10:00 CET on Monday, 10 September, in Boardroom A of the M-Building, in the Vienna International Centre (VIC).
The Board of Governors meeting is closed to the press.
Director General Yukiya Amano will open the meeting with an introductory statement. His statement will be released to journalists after delivery and posted on the IAEA Website the same day. Broadcast quality video and audio extracts of the statement will also be made available.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano will meet the Governor of Fukushima prefecture, Yuhei Sato, at 15:30 Friday, 31 August, in his office. Photographers and camera operators are invited to a brief photo opportunity at the start of the meeting. The two officials will not address the media during the photo opportunity, but are expected to converse informally with each other in Japanese. Participants in the photo opportunity should gather on the ground floor by the elevators in the Vienna International Centre's A-Building at 15:15.

The 75 Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS) will hold the Treaty's Second Extraordinary Meeting and the Organizational Meeting for the Sixth Review Meeting on 27-31 August 2012 in Vienna.
The CNS parties agreed at last year's CNS Review Meeting that they would convene an extraordinary meeting this year to analyse the Fukushima accident. Review meetings are held every three years.

This meeting will provide a forum for discussing and exchanging information on the challenges of effective public communication during major emergencies.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been hosting a four-day International Experts' Meeting on Reactor and Spent Fuel Safety in the Light of the Accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant from 19 to 22 March to provide a forum for discussions and exchange of information among technical experts from Member States on reactor and spent nuclear fuel safety and performance under severe conditions. The meeting is an important component of the IAEA's Nuclear Safety Action Plan.

Meetings between the IAEA and Iran were held in Tehran from 29 to 31 January 2012, aimed at resolving all outstanding substantive issues. Another meeting will take place in Tehran from 20 to 21 February 2012.
The IAEA explained its concerns and identified its priorities, which focus on the clarification of possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear programme.
The IAEA also discussed with Iran the topics and initial steps to be taken, as well as associated modalities.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is hosting an annual workshop for nations considering and planning nuclear power programs. The workshop, meeting on 24-27 January in the Vienna International Centre, is intended to create an opportunity for exchanging information on managing the development of a sustainable national infrastructure for nuclear power plants.
The workshop sessions are closed to the media, but the IAEA will offer a press briefing on the final day, 27 January, at 14:30 in Room MOE75 of the VIC.
