Security experts, including those focusing on nuclear security, work hard to deter any threats to these vital centres, and to ensure that authorities are ready to handle security-related emergencies. Quite a bit – according to new plans by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology and the country's Department of Education, who are working on rolling out a nuclear science and technology education programme that has been piloted in selected schools in the capital region. 
<br /><br />
The teaching material and its lesson exemplars were developed as part of an IAEA technical cooperation project involving several countries across Asia.

Improved regulation of power plant maintenance in Hungary, higher levels of safety in the transportation of neutron sources  in Slovakia and a new network of young nuclear professionals to exchange best practices – these are some of the concrete outcomes of the four-year old Intercontinental Nuclear Institute (INI) that were discussed at a panel discussion dedicated to the impact of INI on young nuclear professionals.

A panel of INI graduates, an INI co-director and IAEA experts shared their experience of the program at a side event to the 62nd IAEA General Conference on 19 September, 2018.
