The December 1999 IAEA Bulletin edition focuses on the IAEA’s safeguarding work. The Agency started revising its safeguards system in the early 1990’s. Articles report on the progress made, on the new features, roles and prospects of the strengthened safeguards, as well as on recent developments of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. National viewpoints on the strengthened safeguards are also given. The IAEA will also verify weapon-origin fissile material in the United States and the Russian Federation.
