Briefing on Human Tissue Irradiation Technique that Saves Lives
Key experts from the IAEA and around the world will brief the media on Wednesday, 4 December on how a unique nuclear technique is saving lives. Know as tissue banking, the technique irradiates tissue grafts and bone to be used for transplants and in treating burn victims.

An UNMOVIC weapons inspection team visited the Waziriyah site of the Al Karama General Company, which is located in the northern outskirts of Baghdad. The site is one of Iraq's principal missile development sites, and in later years has had overall responsibility for development of the Al Samoud liquid propellant missile.

The UNMOVIC team inspected today the Balad Chemical Defence Battalion, a site about 90 km north of Baghdad. This site, which reports to the Chemical Corps Directorate of the Ministry of Defence, conducts training activities in the area of chemical, biological and radiological defense, for military personnel and was considered by Iraq as one of the sensitive sites. It had been inspected before 1998. The inspection team arrived unannounced at the site and had immediate access. The team was able to perform all the activities in the inspection plan.

The UNMOVIC weapons inspection team inspected two sites relating to biological weapons today. The IAEA team, comprising 9 inspectors and support staff, inspected two sites known for their dual-use capabilities as of 1998: Dhu Al Fiqar and Nassr Company located in the Taji area, north of Baghdad.

The UNMOVIC and IAEA inspection teams conducted their first weapons inspections today. They left the Canal Hotel, the operations base for the weapons inspectors in Baghdad, at 8:30 a.m. They were accompanied by their Iraqi counterparts. The IAEA team returned to the operations base at about 12:30 p.m. The UNMOVIC team returned shortly after 5:00 p.m.

The leaders of the UNMOVIC and IAEA weapons inspection teams gave the press today a technical briefing on their inspection activities, which will begin tomorrow, 27 November. Dimitri Perricos, the Director of the Division of Planning and Operations of UNMOVIC, who is leading the chemical, biological and missiles inspection team, and Jacques Baute, who is leading the IAEA Iraq Action Team in the nuclear field, explained the ways and means of conducting their respective inspections, exhibiting some of the instruments that they are planning to employ. and Iraq.

The Spokesman for UNMOVIC and the IAEA in Baghdad, Hiro Ueki, gave an impromptu press briefing at the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, which will house the Baghdad Ongoing Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Centre (BOMVIC) of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

IAEA and United Nations weapons inspectors in Iraq have concluded talks in Iraq focused on the resumption of international arms inspections in the country. The first inspections are scheduled to start 27 November, with teams moving in before then.

The Chairman of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), Dr. Hans Blix, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, arrived in Larnaca, Cyprus on Sunday afternoon, 17 November.
