UNMOVIC/IAEA Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq, 12 December 2002

An UNMOVIC team attended a test launch of a short-range ballistic missile being developed by Iraq. The test took place at a test range approximately 200 km west of Baghdad. The missile is a modified version of a missile already owned by Iraq. The missile range falls within that allowed under the UN resolutions. The UNMOVIC team was able to examine the missile before launch to verify its configuration.

UNMOVIC/IAEA Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq, 11 December 2002

An UNMOVIC team visited the Al Fatah factory of the Al Karama State Company. This site is located in the northwest outskirts of Baghdad. The factory is a new site, which commenced operations in 1999 and was included in the Iraqi declaration of 1 October 2002. Further construction is continuing. The site is concerned principally with the manufacture of mechanical parts for the guidance and control system of the Al Samood ballistic missile, as well as parts of the engine and airframe.

UNMOVIC/IAEA Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq, 10 December 2002

An UNMOVIC Biological team carried out inspection at two sites, National Project for Controlling Brucellosis and Tuberculosis (NPCBT); and Saddam Center for Biotechnology (SCB). The NPCBT was declared and monitored before 1998. The site inspection was a re-baseline inspection based on the Iraqi declaration of 1 October 2002. The site has limited equipment for small batch production of animal vaccine and diagnostics. The SCB is a newly declared site and a detailed baseline inspection was completed.

8 December 2002 -- An UNMOVIC team carried out an inspection of the Falluja III site of the Al-Tariq Company. This site is located in the Falluja district about 100 km west of Baghdad.

UNMOVIC/IAEA Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq, 7 December 2002

An UNMOVIC team carried out an inspection of the Al-Kudus Company, which is situated in the Iskandariyah area about 50 km south of Baghdad.

The company was formed in September 2002 and occupies a site where it was previously intended to house a wind tunnel. Reconstruction of the site for the new research center supporting military applications is still proceeding.

The site and all its key buildings were inspected and the objectives of the visit were successfully achieved.

News Update on Iraq Inspections: IAEA, UN Inspectors Visit More Sites, 6 December 2002

Based on reports from the UN, inspectors visited Al-Mutanna, north of Baghdad, where Iraq once had a chemical weapons (CW) warfare programme. During past visits to the site before the 1998 suspension of the UN arms probe, thousands of CW shells and agents had been destroyed by the UN. Dimitri Perricos, the leader of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspections Commission (UNMOVIC) inspection team, told reporters today that experts wanted to know if some shells containing mustard gas, which were left out at the site, were still stored there. News Update on Iraq Inspections: Teams Inspect Presidential Site, 3 December 2002

As reported by the UN 3 December, teams from the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission and the International Atomic Energy Agency today conducted an unannounced joint inspection of one of the eight Presidential sites in Iraq.

The probe at the Sijood site, located on the west bank of the Tigris River in Baghdad, was the first inspection of a presidential site since the return of the inspectors to Iraq, according to a UN spokesman.
